Tradup Monastery is regarded as the first Tibetan Buddhist temple in Tibet. According to historical records, the 33rd Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo constructed this monastery and simultaneously initiated the building of Jokhang Temple and Ramochen Temple in Lhasa.

This monastery belongs to the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is situated in Nedong County, Shannan. It is about 7 kilometers away from Tsedang and lies on the eastern side of the Yarlung Zangbo River.

The temple was initially small in scale. Subsequently, during the period of resistance against King Langdarma, it suffered significant damage. Under the reign of Tibetan King Trisong Detsen, the temple was expanded. In the era of the 5th Dalai Lama, a golden roof and a courtyard were added to it. Even during the tenure of the 7th Dalai Lama, further renovations were carried out, and 21 additional chapels were constructed.

Later, during the Cultural Revolution, some of its buildings were severely damaged. The reconstruction of the temple was completed in 1988.

At present, Traduk Temple has become an ideal spiritual destination for pilgrims from all over Tibet. Moreover, there is a remarkable increase in the number of foreign visitors each year.

The temple has many unique chapels; each chapel houses many significant statues of Buddha, the statue of speaking Tara, statue of Chenriseg, statue of Jamphelyang etc. These cultural and religious heritages play an important role in promoting cultural exchanges and inheritance.

Consequently, this temple is an excellent option for those who are in pursuit of a spiritual tour in Tibet. For detailed information about tour itinerary of the temple and Tibet spiritual tours, please feel free to contact us. Our professional local tour consultants will respond to you promptly.
