Ngari Prefecture is located in the southwestern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It lies in the core area of the Qiangtang Plateau, with an average altitude of 4,500 meters.
There are numerous unique natural landscapes and rich historical and cultural relics here, such as Mount Kailash, Lake Manasarovar, and the Ruins of the Guge Kingdom.
Though this place presents numerous sacred natural sites and vestiges of ancient kingdoms, which makes it an ideal destination for tourists. However, due to its high altitude and severe cold in winter, the optimal period for visiting is from April to the end of October. During winter, many guesthouses, hotels, and restaurants will be shut down, and the entire area will be encircled by snow-capped mountains.
