Nakchu is located in the northern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The average altitude of this region is around 4,500 meters. Winters here are extremely cold, but summers boast very pleasant weather conditions.

The region combines nomadic and urban lifestyles. Some areas in Nakchu produce the highest-quality Tibetan caterpillar in Tibet. As a result, most people in Nakchu enjoy a good standard of living.

The best time to visit Nakchu is during the summer months of June, July, and August when the most exciting horse-racing festivals are held.
