Basumtso Lake, nestled in a deep gorge along the upper reaches of the Ba River, lies around 36 kilometers from Bahe Town in Gongbo’gyamda County, within Nyingchi Prefecture. Revered as a sacred lake and a hallowed site of the Nyingma sect, it has been honored with the national 5A-level scenic area rating by the China National Tourism Administration.
In the Tibetan language, it is frequently referred to as Drak Sum Tso, translating to “Three Rocky Mountains Lake”. Spanning approximately 28 square kilometers, the lake stretches 18 kilometers in length and is 1.5 kilometers in width. Positioned at an altitude of 3700 meters above sea level, its deepest part reaches 120 meters.
This hallowed lake holds profound religious importance. Moreover, its natural allure, featuring magnificent snow – capped mountains and captivating natural landscapes, makes it a paradise for photography enthusiasts. Tourists are often drawn to capture its beauty.
