Yamdrok Lake, known as Yamdrok Yutso in Tibetan where “Yutso” signifies lake of turquoise, was named due to its strikingly beautiful turquoise color. It is located in Nangartse, under Shannan prefecture. The lake contains fresh water and is one of the four sacred lakes in Tibet, with the others being Namtso Lake, Lake Mansarovar and Lhamo Latso.Yamdrok Lake

In Tibetan Buddhism, all of these lakes are highly regarded as precious and significant because of the presence of goddesses and deities within each. The most magnificent view of the lake’s turquoise color can be witnessed from Kampala Pass, which stands at an altitude of 4,770 meters above sea level. The stunning lake is encircled by snow-capped mountains.

Although it is a bit chilly in winter in that area, yet winter is the prime time to relish its incredible turquoise hue. Thus, winter is an excellent option for your Tibet tour to experience the unforgettable natural charm of the lake and to take pictures by its side.
