January 7, 2025 Earthquake
On January 7, 2025, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Tingri County in Tibet’s Shigatse Prefecture, shaking the high-altitude region at 09:05 CST. The disaster claimed 126 lives and injured 188 people, with hard-hit areas like Dramtso losing 100 residents including two nuns in a collapsed convent and Gurong Village seeing all homes damaged.

Widespread Damage
Across five counties, 206 villages suffered severe destruction. More than 27,200 buildings were damaged, leaving many families homeless in freezing weather conditions.
Emergency Rescue
China launched an urgent emergency response, and over 15,000 rescuers worked tirelessly to save 407 trapped people and relocate 47,500 residents to safer areas.
Immediate Relief
The government sent 200 million yuan in relief funds, along with tents, quilts, heating equipment, and emergency supplies for affected communities.
Relief and Recovery Efforts
Temporary Housing Support
By mid-January, 5,152 prefabricated houses were built, with additional shelters still under construction to support displaced families during the harsh winter season.
Restored Communication
Power and phone services were restored within a single day, allowing separated families and loved ones to reconnect quickly after the disaster.
Public Donations
Countless private companies and individuals from Mainland China and Tibet stepped forward, donating daily necessities and supplies to help ease the hardship faced by local residents.
Our Contribution
We, Tibet Roof of World Travel Agency, expressed our deepest condolences through donations worth 500,000 Chinese Yuan including clothing, food, and other essential items to support the affected communities.

Warm clothing and winter essentials were donated to families facing severe cold conditions after losing their homes during the earthquake.

Food supplies and emergency necessities were provided to help affected communities during the immediate recovery period.
